POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor, tenure-track, 9-month appointment
EFFORT: 75% Teaching / 25% Research
LOCATION: Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences The Ohio State University, Columbus
POSITION DESCRIPTION, COLLABORATIONS AND FACILITIES: The faculty member will engage in advancing the community leadership program in ACEL by demonstrating excellence in teaching, research, and service. The faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses that support the community leadership program, the leadership studies minor and other ACEL emphases. The successful candidate will provide dynamic leadership for interdisciplinary scholarship, outreach and teaching. Academic and career advising is expected. The faculty member is expected to interact closely with all components of ACEL and targeted key partners in the CFAES. The incumbent will also be expected to seek internal and external research support funds. The faculty member will also be expected to engage in outreach programs through the department’s OSU Leadership Center, with opportunities to engage and partner with OSU Extension. The successful candidate is expected to develop a comprehensive program that will include research, teaching (which includes the classroom, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and in the field connected to OSU Extension and other partners) and service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ph.D. in leadership, community leadership or closely related field; excellent written and oral communication skills. Evidence of leadership experience. An expressed interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching excellence. Ability to provide excellent advising for both academic and career purposes. Research expertise in an area that complements community leadership. Applicants need to provide evidence of their ability to secure extramural funding from private and public sources as well as evidence of scholarly ability and productivity.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Leadership program development and implementation experience. Leadership experience that can be utilized as transferable examples in teaching and outreach. Ability to both collaborate with faculty from and contribute to the other degree programs in the department: Agriscience Education and Agricultural Communication. Experience mentoring of individuals from underrepresented groups.


1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in community leadership.
2. Advise undergraduate majors and minors and mentor graduate students.
3. Supervise students in completing their leadership capstone projects.
4. Develop a focused program of research on leadership.
5. Seek externally funded grants and contracts in support of the candidate’s scholarship.
6. Serve on department, college, and university committees.
7. Provide outreach and programming to groups and organizations regarding leadership.
